Design Theory
Design theory using manual print aesthetics is a creative approach that emphasizes using manual printing and art processes to create unique designs. David Bernie’s design theory using manual print aesthetics involves various mediums and techniques to achieve a distinct and authentic look.
The emphasis is on incorporating imperfections and irregularities into the design process, such as using shapes with worn edges, lines that don’t quite align, and roughed base materials. This creates a design that captures life and its interaction with the world while incorporating lived experiences.
Bio
David Bernie aspires to create through community interactions – from thoughts to visuals to movement. Bernie captures images with cameras, documents thoughts with pen and paper, creates visuals with colors and textures, and illustrates his life through art.
David Bernie is a Chicago-based Indigenous artist of the Ihanktonwan Dakota Oyate, People of the End Village. The Government’s name is the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
David Bernie’s great-great-grandmother was not an Indian princess. Any green space you see him on is not his reservation, but You Are On Stolen Land. Bernie is not your Chief, Shaman, or Token Indian for you to co-opt lived experiences.
